I do not know how the people in other country think of advertisements. But I know that a lot of Singaporeans do not like advertisements. They dislike salespeople also.
I used to market real estate and also help people in financial planning. I need to talk to strangers (cold calling). When approached by salespeople, a lot of people will shun you. However I should say sometimes, look does help a bit. If you look presentable, confident, and ‘good-looking’, people will tend to give you a chance to talk to them. Probably I have a honest look too, and when I attempt to talk to people, I normally will get a response from them.
Generally people are scared that you want to ’sell’ them something. Since young, whenever the family watch television programmes, when it was commercial time, we always ‘ran away’ from the TV. Nobody stays to watch the commercial. Now it is still the case, unless I am really very free (nothing to do) then I don’t mind watching the commercial on TV.
However, now I have a different views on advertisements. I find that advertisements are not a bad thing actually. It create a awareness for you about what services are there available in the market, so that when you need it one day, you do not need to panic. You know who to look for.
It is always good to learn more things. We always can learn something from the people around us. Everybody got something to offer to us. Actually the work of a salespeople is very tough. So the next time if there is a salesperson who approached you, probably we should give them a chance to ‘talk’ to you. I think it is better to be open-minded and give people a chance. But the salespeople also must respect the customers also, not too pushy and let the customers have time to think.
Today I was working on a few sites on advertisements. Some of them are not really related to my sites. But I had to have some revenues. I have blog raters readers who reviewed that they like my sites as there is no advertisements and pop-out, as compared to other sites, but I have started advertiser links on some sites. I hope that will not affect much. As there is no pop-outs. The links are just linked to the advertiser.
I read a few advertiser and they are good sites. They provide you with information which you do not know. And in times of emergencies, you will be prepared and you really know who to look for if deep in your brain you know that there are such kind of services available. Some of the services they provide are those that I have never heard of or even know of. So that’s how I have changed my view about advertisement.
Everybody in this world is offering ‘help’ to people in one way or another. The service they provide is their specialty. In return for the great help they offer, we reward them with ‘our money’.
