Two weeks ago, my sister-in-law gave me two hamsters. My daughter, Clara was very excited and happy upon seeing the two cute hamsters. Everyday since 2nd November 2006, the day the hamsters ‘came’ to our house, she would look for the hamsters the first thing she wakes up in the morning. Every morning, she will throw away the left over food in the hamster house, gave them new food and change the water for them.
This has becomes her new hobbies.
Last week, one of the hamster escaped. The family searched high and low for the hamsters. But it was so hard. It was rather late when we came to know that the hamster was gone. I think it was about 8pm. Upon searching for about half an hour, we gave up. I placed some food on the floor and off all the lights in the house, thinking that the hamster might come out to eat. However, it did not seem to work. It was going to be about 10pm. Clara was crying. She did not want to lose her favourite pet. Then my husband suddenly had the idea that the hamster might have escape out of the house when the door was opened earlier on.
Without any delay, he and Clara went out of the house to search for the hamster. Minutes later, Clara came in with a happy face with the hamster in her hand. She was so delighted to have her hamster back.
However, things were not the same the next day. The next day just after this incident, as usual, Clara was so happy playing with the hamsters. She loves one hamster more than the other. This is because one hamster is more active than the other. She loves the more quiet ones. I think that must be a girl. The other active ones should be a male.
She was playing and holding the hamsters, laughing and stroking it. Suddenly all of the sudden, I find that her expression changed. I presume she must have got bitten by the hamster. Sure enough, it was. I look at her finger, it was red, still with the ‘mark’ of the hamster’s teeth there.
After this, she no longer touches the hamsters. She never plays with the hamster anymore.
Now, I am being ‘forced’ to ‘adopt’ the hamsters.
These are some of the photos I have managed to take. It is very hard to capture a proper picture of them as they are always running about.
I put them on this sofa so that they are within a specific range and I can easily capture them.
I have posted some information about hamsters at Every Pet Has Its Day. Click here to read about Hamsters.
When I was young, I also had two white mice. But I don’t really like mice/hamsters. My favourite pet is still dogs.
