Magic Words

I was checking my Helium earnings when I came across this topic about Advertisements. So it prompted me to write about it.
I think this world is about advertising. When you go for job interviews, you need to ‘advertise’ yourself so that you can get the job you want. When you go for dating, you ‘advertise’ yourself, so that you can get the partner you want. Though we do not say we are ‘advertising’ ourselves, but what we are doing is a form of ‘advertising’ but put in nicer terms of marketing yourself. Nobody like the word advertisements. It is so commercialised. Just like in sales, people don’t like the word ‘to buy’, but if you put it in such a way as ‘endorsed it’ or ‘to own’ it, it create a different impact altogether. This is the magic of using the right words.

So here is what I write for Helium today.
The best times of the year to advertise
Advertisements can be divided into urgent types like a missing dog or a missing person type of advertisement where you cannot wait for a better time; and another type will be the non-urgent type where you can place the advertisements any time of the year, and by aiming at the right timing, you can save cost. For such cases, the best time of the year to advertise is November. Why I think so, let me tell you why.
Advertisements can be divided into these categories:
1. Properties/Home
Here, you can be advertising your home furniture, advertising properties for sale, for rental. This can also include advertisement for chalets/holiday bungalow/country clubs.
2. Automobile/Car
Advertisement for cars include car accessories, car sale, car rental, car repair, car maintenance.
3. Entertainment
Entertainment includes advertisements for travels, pubs, lounges, hotels and restaurants.
4. Education/ Scholarships
Advertisement under this categories includes children’s education needs such as tuition, learning center, and for others such as continuing education for adults’ needs such as degree programmes. Other classes in this categories are arts, driving, pottery, flower arrangement and so on.
5. Recruitment/Employment/Business Opportunities
These includes jobs vacancies, business opportunities such as partnerships and so on. Employment advertisements may be not be placed during November. If urgent case arise where there is staff shortage when some staff in the company resign, then advertisements must be placed any time of the year.
6. Shopping Sale
These are advertisements placed by various shops or shopping centres who are having sales
7. Seminars/Talks/Workshops
These can be investment talks/seminars, beauty workshops, health talks, and so on.
8. Social Welfare
These includes advertisement for dating service and matchmaking service.
The reason why I think November is the best time of the year is because, November is the time where children school children have their school holidays. During the year, parents and children have a lot of stress. Many family nowadays have two parents working, and the children, being looked after by maids or other care-givers. During the year, parents have been busy with their work and during their rest days, they need to spend time teaching their children about the school work, or preparation for the children school’s examinations. Thus, when school holiday approaches, most families want to spend some time to have fun and holidays with the children.
In addition, it is during year end, December, where employees get their year end bonuses. This also allows these people to spend more money on things like buying new watches, handphones, computers, television, furniture, new cars and so on. This is where shopping sale advertisements will come in useful.
End year is people thinking of fun time. It is a time to relax for most people. It is a family gathering and enjoyment time. So it is very common for family with children or couples to go tour or book for chalets or hotels reservations for celebration of anniversaries or even Christmas.
During year end where people would receive more money as in Bonus, and they need to clear their annual leave, this is a good chance to market investment products and holidays programmes.
However, why I think it is November and not December since bonuses are paid in December. Usually people would spend their savings first(And some items can be paid via instalments basis). Advertisements need to be placed first so that consumers are aware of you. In this competitive market, you need to create awareness and you need to be different and unique from others.
As for educational advertisements, November is the best time also because by mid November, children would have got their exams result. Parents are anxious about the children’s results. When the children’s results are poor, parents would want the children to attend tuition classes.
As for single adults who are lonely or want to have more friends or improve themselves, they would enrol themselves for some language classes, or seminars, or match making service. This is because normally when they want to clear their year end leaves, they might not know what to do, as they have not ‘found’ their other half.
Finally, to add to the reason why November is a better time to place advertisements. November is a month whereby the mind of the people already start planning for December. Whereas December is a month where on the mind set of most people, it is a month to get-ready for January. Thus, it by December, normally people would have finished planning their holidays! And if you place your advertisements in December, it would be too late.
