Employee & Employer
By Peace | December 8, 2006

An employer and employee relationship is just like heaven and earth. Employer and employee relationships can be like friends, there must be respect for each other. However, there must always be a line between them, just like using the umbrella. At time when it rains (just like employer going crazy, scolding the maid, giving the workers a lot of work), we (inhabitants on earth) must open our umbrella to shield and protect ourselves (from the heavy workload, scoldings etc). When the rain and storm is over, you can keep the umbrella again. There will be time when the weather is good to you(your boss singing praises about you), time when the weather is bad(boss lecture you). But that is how the weather works. There are good and bad weather. Use your umbrella when necessary and still respect each other. Do not harm each other and the world will be a better place.
Just submitted an article on Helium. I have been an employees before and I have had the chance of ‘acting’ as ‘the boss’ when I was recruiting for surveyors for my insurance work.
This is what I wrote:
The Ten Worst Types Of Employees A Boss Can Have
Employees always have a lot of expectations of their bosses. Similarly, as all the bosses also have expectations for their employees. Many times, employing the employees after a few rounds of interviews may not necessary reveal much of a person.
I think the ten worst types of of employees a boss can have can be listed below:
1. Poor Attitude
Attitude is the most important factor to look for in an employee. Attitude determines a lot of things and it affects a person’s character in return. Having a positive attitude make the employee a happier person, a happy person is able to interact well with the people in the office. This makes everybody in the office happy and all are able to work as a team.
An employee who has poor attitude cannot be bothered about his learning attitude, his self-image, and this will produce poor results in his work, and he may not get along well with his colleague.
2. Bad-Mouth
A company’s reputation is very important for it to function well and to be standing out from the other competitor in the market. A dissatisfied and disloyal employee who always bad-mouth about the company is not to be trifled with. Again this can be an attribute of bad attitude.
3. Disloyal
An employee who work in the company for the sake of money, just to get his/her monthly salary. He/she might ’sell’ important information from the company to ‘outsider’, who is their competitor.
4. Greedy
An employee who is greedy is a liability to the company. This employee is never satisfied with whatever the company provides. Having a greedy nature, whatever things he/she does may be wasteful to the company.
5. Dishonest
A person who is greedy may resort to crime. When tempted with temptation, such as handling a huge sum of money, a greedy accountant forged false accounts to get the money or through other means. Similarly, an dishonest employee might do the same thing. Theft might arise from the company also(This person may instigate other people to steal from the company if he is not able to do it himself.)
6. Selfish
An employee who never put the company in the first place is not only disloyal, he/she will think of ways to benefit himself/herself more than the company’s welfare. This arises the selfish nature of him/her as a result. Being selfish, disloyal, dishonest, he might misuse the company’s inventories.
7. Lazy
A lazy employee is another disadvantage or liability to the company. Not only is he/she not productive to the company, he/she is another additional ‘cost’ to the company. This is because by being lazy, he might be always late for work, and he might sleep during working hours. Despite all these, he still gets his monthly pay. Isn’t he a liability to the company?
8. Calculative
An employee who is calculative can never be happy. Being calculative, he/she might not want to work overtime when in time of needs, to accomplish or meet datelines. This will lead to a lot of unhappiness in the company.
9. Poor health
An employee with poor health cannot work properly. His productivity is poor. He needs to take medical leaves every now and then. A company is not a charity organization who pays for ‘nothing’.
10. Bad Habits
Bad habits such as gambling, alcoholism, smoking and even taking drugs, are all bad habits which should not be allowed anywhere. All these addictive behavior cause family problems, health problems, and these will indirectly affect working performance in return.
Employers always like to look for employees with experience and all the other necessary qualifications. However, an employees with a good attitude is the most valuable of all. Given the good attitude and the determination to learn, a new employee with no working experience and skills in the job, can one day be trained to be skillful and experienced too, in a matter of time. An employee who cannot speak well, but with good attitude, he knows the importance of it, will take his initiative to brush up his weak areas. Nothing in this world cannot be accomplished if there is a will. Of course, there are many other various factors to be considered when selecting employees, so which is your priority when looking for the correct candidate? It all depends on what you want actually. The boss has to think carefully.
Every boss wants to hire the best candidate for a job with the least amount of monthly salary (low pay), whereas all job seekers want to look for ‘good’ boss and good company which can provide the best benefits and high pay. There is always people who are never satisfied with anything. And people are not robots either. I think the best is everybody do their own jobs and duties properly and conscientiously. As long as you are able to do your own work properly, get your task done and you are safe.
Whenever I write something at Helium, I do not want to read about what others have to say first. I find that if I read what they wrote, then it will affect my own ‘thinking’. If I read what they have written, then it will not prompt me to think of the ‘answers’ further. So I do not read what the other members write at all. It’s better to refer to their writing after I have written my own articles.
