Inspirational Moment
By Peace | April 25, 2007
It is a very hot day today. I had taken some pictures with my favourite handphone. I had just uploaded all my pictures at Fliptrack and made it into a video. I had taken a video too and I had uploaded at YouTube as well.
I have not seen real ‘nature’ for a long time. By ‘real nature’ I mean something which is not man-made. Look at all our surrounding now in Singapore, everything is man-made. There is hardly any natural landscape. Even Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is not considered natural, if there is human intervention.
Whenever I walk around or travel to any place, I love to observe the flora around me. They are so inspirational — but it is so ‘tiring’ to always see ‘artificial’ landscaping all around in Singapore, everything is so urbanised.
Though it looks clean and it is good to be so advanced, however, the our lives are very stressful. Everything is going very fast. Time and money is two important issues here. We have to be efficient in everything we do. There is hardly any time to slack at all. Imagine such a small country but yet so ‘kiasu’(scared to loose/ fear of losing), really ‘kiasu’, everything must be world number one, world number two; everything must be only one in Singapore. Of course it is good to be always upgrading and that is why we have ‘better living’ and a cleaner environment.
It is always easier to manage a small classroom of pupils than to manage a school with many classrooms. The teacher who only need to manage a classroom can have full focus on the students easily. Anything that the students do cannot be escaped from the teacher. If a few teachers are needed to handle all the classrooms in the school, more work have to be done! That is why big countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan and so on, are so hard to fight with other countries. It takes brains, efforts and money to build or developed the land. While a teacher has only a classroom to manage, he will always think of ways to ‘improve’ the classroom — more work and more expectations for the students. There will always think of ‘upgrading’. For example, hacking the walls which today and making new walls tomorrow, ‘donating’ the chairs and tables to poorer nation and buying new ones, adding air-conditioner to the classroom etc etc (These are just analogy and not supposed to mean the real classroom management). These are wasting money and additional unnecessary workmen cost. But what to do, the classroom wants to appear the best classroom in the whole world of schools, not just a school alone.
As a student, we cannot say too much. Most of the time what the teacher says the students have to obey. Hardly can they defy what the teacher says, otherwise you face the consequences. Though the teacher might ask for opinions, but deep in their mind, he/she already has their mind set of a certain opinion of his/hers. It is just a mere courtesy and ‘passing’ of information to the students — just in case the whole class begins to gang up and throw rotten eggs at the teacher!
Whatever it is, I treasure these rare sight of nature. I really love these. This is the most inspirational day of the month. I love the sight of nature, everything so real, so UNTOUCH by HUMAN. This is indeed my inspirational moment. Despite the hot weather, despite the fact that my skin is feeling ‘burn’ by the sun, I had to capture the beauty. I do not want to miss this golden moment. It might not stay long. It might be gone anything, not many people would appreciate such beauty. Just by the look at it, you will be able to tell the difference — the difference of whether it is man-made or natural. To some people, the sight of it might be considered as ‘dirt’ and unsightly, especially to tourist — this is definitely going to ’spoil’ the image of Singapore, but this is nature! These are our pioneer plants in fact! The point is, not to ‘interfere’ so much of nature. As the word applies, nature, please let it be natural, at least in some part of Singapore.
However, no stones will be left untouched. Soon these scenes are going to be lost forever. Pulau Ubin is another example! All these are not without consequences. More roads, more tunnels, more pavements, more buildings, lesser weeds, lesser swamps, and so on, the consequences?? Have you seen already?
