Singapore Blogosphere Politics
By Peace | July 19, 2007
This Friday is Racial Harmony Day. Just a few days ago, the sltopsites politics seem to be over. I would regard that as international internet politic. I thought that such things would not happen in Singapore. But I was wrong. I got a surprise last night.
Richard was going through his list of blogs at Singapore Topsites, waiting for approval. As he was going through the list, one blog which mention about XiaXue Vs Steven Lim caught his attention. We watched the interesting videos together.
XiaXue.blogspot had won the Best Asian Blog in 2004 and 2005, Best Singapore blog 2003. When I first started blogging, Richard asked me to take a look at his blog. He told me to look at how other people can be successful in their blogs. Well, I never want to be famous or be a celebrity. I never seek more wealth nor fame. I just need enough money sufficient for the family, the children’s education and emergency fund, don’t have to think of retirement income. I went to her blog for once, and I am not at all amazed at her blog. I wonder how she had won. I read the latest post, the next, the archives, all very similar. Nothing good. Nothing healthy at all. Its all vulgarities, insults, condemnation and audacity.

She was mentioned in the newspaper for some of her remarks at the usage of some handicap toilets. I had forgotten what it is and I won’t be bother to go find out again. I also saw some message about her at Yahoo message board some time back. Her name at blogspot, XiaXue would have sound ‘falling snow’ in Chinese. But some people at the message board had mentioned it as Xia4 Xue1 (the numbers indicate the HanYuPinYin), in dialect, Xia4 Xue1 means something like disgraceful. I think that is more appropriate thought.
I mentioned about comments on blogs, and I left comments to blogs that is worthy of my praise and commendation. I left no comments at all whenever I go to her blog. So what if her traffic is good. So what if she has a ‘Ang Mo’ Boyfriend or about her looks, legs etc etc. Nobody cares. The words that come out from her mouth, the words that produce from her blogs cuts people’s hearts, hurts the soul, and mislead people. In my personal opinion, it does not deserve to win Best Asian Blogs nor a blog of Singapore title. It is an utter disgrace to any tourist or people from other nation who drop by.
And now this commotion all about Singapore Top most disgusting Bloggers is yet another of her obnoxiousness. To gain attention and popularity she had resorted to this kind of contemptible marketing strategies. This kind of people are just too free. As usual with any kind of office politics or internet politics, there are always two groups of thoughts, those that are for her and those that are against her. These are people who enjoy watching the fire spreading further to cause more destruction around. Even old woman is an eyesore to her. She has even no empathy and respect for old people. Not only does she mock at the old woman, she also said that ‘old people are smelly’. She may have her youth now, but she is not going to be youthful forever. Old people are smelly? How she knows that? She never go toilet to do her bowel? She smell nice? She don’t Pai Sai (make brown cakes in the toilet)? Old aunty mentioned in her blog, this is her saddest day in her life. I understand how she feels. I was indirectly involved in this kind of internet politics just a few days to week ago, and I was deeply hurt as well — even though I was not the one who is being criticised.
The Xia4Xue1 girl says something about the mediocre. I have no good memory. I had forgotten what exactly she said. But what’s wrong with being a mediocre? You are famous now does not mean that you will forever be famous. For all you know you are just notorious and but seem famous in a nice way. It is a Xia4 Xue1 to Singapore. Racial Harmony is approaching. This should be Racial Harmony day and this is the kind of ‘Singaporean Harmony’ that is going to inculcate to our next generation? Singaporean fighting within themselves. What is unity? What is team spirit? It’s such a small country only and is there a need to IMPRESS to win in such manner? This is ’spitting saliva’ sad to say that, and even though it is none of my concern and none of my business. But all these has been in my heart for so long now.
But today, last night in fact, I was happy. Very happy that someone had rebuked her. An eye for an eye. This person may seem to be ‘disgusting’ in the eyes of some people. Indeed he was, the first time I saw him wearing yellow underpants in Singapore Idol. He talks loudly it seems. It was not so much of a good impression of him. But last night was the turning point. I was impressed and I SUPPORT him. This person is none other than the self-claim SgHunk, 1976, 30 years old, The World’s Most Handsome Guy. What’s wrong with a having a person with high self-esteem. What’s wrong with a person who behaves out of the norm but making his normal means to fulfill his dreams and desire? He never harrass anybody, rape anyone or molest anyone, steal, kill, etc? He is just being himself. He is not imitating anyone. I support him for his courage and confidence. He dares to stand out from the crowd. This is a commendable spirit. I support him does not mean that I like him or I am a fan of him. Looks are nothing to me after all I had been through. Looks are deceiving and looks don’t last; but the heart and the mind is always there. What so big deal with good looks but the words that kill, the mouth of a sword you have?
Watch the video, though he is vulgar towards the end, at least it is words that come out from the mouth verbally. Words that are produced in blogs can be controlled. There is no need to ’speak vulgarities’ in blogs.
Wan Bao,晚报 Please Kindly Sue 请控告 Xia Xue 下雪 Aka Wendy Cheng
This kind of fame is disgraceful and disrespectful at all. However, I got to know a few blogs in this incident. They are Jack Neo, Old Woman and Sharon Au. I have listed them in my blogroll. They are people who have brought laughter to our life. Why can’t we be more nice to them instead of criticizing them?

The viewing of the video was a test of my belief we all have the same spirit and differ between just in physical shapes of our noses, for example. Thank you for that. While watching the video I faced the world outside the silence of my room and so the reality reminded me about the necessity to choose… yet have I the right to talk? The traffic to my blog rapidly approaches zero mark thus have I the right to teach any?
The Flowers too are helpless under our boots, but does that explain the eternity of the beauty?
… politic may offer the bread for survival today but not the peace that pick us up from the mud of today and uplifts to the beauty of the dreams.
