Second Life Stop Gambling

By Peace | July 27, 2007

No more casino games in Second Life! No more gambling activities!

As of 25th July 2007, all gambling activities in Second Life is prohibited. Anyone who is found to violate the policy, and still have gambling activities will have all related objects from the inworld environment removed by LL, or may have their accounts suspended or terminated — accounts of residents involved without refund or payment, and any relevant details, including user information, may be reported to authorities and financial institutions.

Several months ago the issue of gambling in Second Life were raised — There is no longer accept any classified ads, place listings, or event listings that appear to relate to simulated casino activity as of 5th April 2007 (Advertising Policy Changes). Various Second Life Casinos affected were being ceased and removed. There were still Casinos operating in Second Life after that. However, as of 25th July, Second Life Casinos will be history.

This is the policy as quoted from the Official Linden Blog:

It is a violation of this policy to wager in games in the Second Life (R) environment operated on Linden Lab servers if such games:

(1) (a) rely on chance or random number generation to determine a winner, OR (b) rely on the outcome of real-life organized sporting events,

AND

(2) provide a payout in

(a) Linden Dollars, OR

(b) any real-world currency or thing of value.

This includes (but is not limited to), for example, Casino Games such as:

o Baccarat
o Blackjack
o Craps
o Faro
o Keno
o Pachinko
o Pai Gow
o Poker
o Roulette
o Sic Bo
o Slot machines

It also includes Sports Books or Sports Betting, including the placing of bets on actual sporting events against a book-maker or through a betting exchange.
Linden Lab will actively enforce this policy. If we discover gambling activities that violate the policy, we will remove all related objects from the inworld environment, may suspend or terminate the accounts of residents involved without refund or payment, and may report any relevant details, including user information, to authorities and financial institutions.

Sploder balls and Raffle balls are common features in Second Life Clubs and casinos. These are not any ordinary balls, but ‘lucky’ balls that allows you a chance of winning more Lindens. From as little as 10L, you have a chance of winning any amount. It is a features that attracts traffic to businesses in Second Life Clubs and casinos. With the cessation of Second Life gambling, there is definitely going to have lesser fun in Second Life for many people. This is definitely a shock to many Second Life business owners and Second Life Residents as well. To the regulars who patronized Casinos, they were surprised by the Casinos being vanished overnight. Many were puzzled and very dissatisfied by the newly implemented policy and the laws. However, as in any business world and real life scenerio, when one business close another business will flourish. Will it happens in Second Life or would it cause a drop in Second Life population? This would be my next post about Second Life.

For people who loves to seek fun and thrill in betting and in winning, there will be disappointment. To the business owners who own all these casinos, there will be great disappointments and regrets. All the time and effort put in the establishments and success of their casino business has all gone down to waste.

These slots machines, betting tables, the roulette, blackjack and so on will all be useless inventories from now on. To the game developers who create casino games machines, these will be the end of their casino business.
