Woodlands Chicken Rice
By Peace | September 22, 2007

This is Woodlands Ave 1, the nearest MRT stations is Marsiling. This is the place where my children love to eat Chicken rice every weekends.

There is no air-con here. There are smokers. Even with smoking and non-smoking area, there are still ’smoking’ smell, which I hate. However, it is not that bad. The most important is the children like the food and it is far better than Loy Kee Best Chicken Rice. Staying for about ten years in Woodlands, I had tried almost all the food in Woodlands. Woodlands North Plaza has chicken rice. Woodlands Mart food court has chicken rice too. So does Admiralty food court. However, none can be compared to this one at Woodlands Ave 1.
No one has ever mentioned that this chicken rice is good in Woodlands. Nothing was mentioned about them. They are proclaimed that they are the best, they are the humbly good Chicken Rice stall who never waste money on Advertising. They just continue to maintain their chicken rice’s standard and recipe, everyday serving their customers.

The whole lunch consisting of a big plate of chicken, with Achar and cucumber, 2 cans of soft drinks, a plate of vegetable and four plates of chicken rice cost about $18. At Loy Kee Best Chicken Rice, we would have spent similar amount of money but not a full sumptuous meal. Neither do we enjoy ourselves at Loy Kee. The only thing which perhaps we can enjoy is the air-con. But I would rather spend sometime strolling in NTUC supermarket the next time, rather than to sit at Loy Kee.

This is what was being served. The hawker will not say “Enjoy your food, have a nice day.” However, the hawker will serve you what you asked for. We do not ask for excellent service, but merely good food and money worth products — we want to have a fill of our stomach with delicious food with the least amount of money. No air-con, got wind.
This plate of chicken rice is for four person. This plate of chicken rice together with four plates of rice cost S$14. The stall does not sell vegetables. I can buy other dishes at the vegetable rice stall. The plate of vegetable which I had bought cost S$1.50.
2 cans of soft drinks, with four cups of ice, cost about S$2.60.
One thing about eating Chicken Rice is their chilli sauce. Loy Kee’s chilli does not taste fantastic. However, I like their ginger. Over here at Marsiling, the chicken rice, chicken and chilli taste good. However, they do not have ginger. But I do not mind that. How much can I expect from a hawker centre? If you want individual portion of chicken rice, each packet or plate of chicken rice cost S$2.50. If you want more chicken, more rice, you can ask for S$3.00. Whichever price you ask for, the food is still the same. It just tastes good!

[…] Heart of Woodlands As mentioned, I found peace that very day, and I had the most wonderful breakfast with the birds at Woodlands Ave 1, the place where I could sit down, have a bowl of duck noodle soup, watching the birds playing, and watching busy people walking on the pathways. That is the place where our Singapore American School is also. […]
