Second Life Interview

By Peace | October 11, 2007

Standing at the balcony, enjoying beautiful sceneries at Malyshkin, one of Richard Palace’s sim. This is a world of imagination and you do not need to touch it to believe it. Feelings is enough.

Last week, I received an email from a person who claimed she was a student from NTU. She wanted to interview me for her class assignment on Second Life. She wanted to write some news articles on Second Life and she came across my blog. She wanted me to grant her an interview. I thought since she wanted to write about Second Life, she should have an account with Second Life. I did not ask her about that.

I replied her, asking her about the details of the interview. I would be glad to help her if I can, but I am not ready to ’sacrifice’ too much of my time. Every minute is not wasted. I have lots of things to do. I would not want to meet up with her unless I am making money out of it. This is the reality of life. If I am single now, I do not need to work that hard for money. But every minute counts now, because my life is not my life alone. My life is my children’s and my husband’s. I need to think about them as well. Having them in my life is just like I am holding an umbrella walking with them, my two kids, who need to be nutured and looked after.

This is all about priority and I had to learn to say “No” for things which will hinder with my ‘way’. On the same day, I received the reply, saying that she wanted to meet me face to face. I wonder why she needed that. So I rejected her straight away. However, I do not mind if it is a Second Life virtual world interview. That would have been better, time-saving, beneficial for everybody and it would have achieved what she wanted to be — she would have gained experience in Second Life, conferencing with somebody! However, she did not reply to me after that. I never bother to explain that to her as everybody has their own views.

I do not see the reasons why she must see me personally. What she wants is views and opinions. In Second Life, there are always groups of people who meet to have discussions. As people are so busy, Second Life makes meeting easier. That is the purpose!

Why do I join Second Life? I mentioned about Purpose In Second Life and Second Life Relationship before. Second Life for me is a place for me to go exploration, see beautiful sceneries and to share a common interest with my husband. He is doing business in Second Life. For me, I am not doing business in Second Life. I will talk about Business in Second Life in another post. My responsibilities as a housewife and my business alone is busy enough.

I have no money to go travels. Second Life is my getaway. I love to visit castles and gardens. In Second Life, I can get to visit these places at the comfort of my home and at my own time. I can meet other friends around the world and I can date them as well. There are church, shopping, and interesting people in Second Life. These are my reasons for using Second Life.

This is my China friend, met in Second Life. It is just another kind of Msn messaging or skype. Unlike Msn or Skype, here at Second Life, you can chat and at the same time you can imagine what kind of theme or environment you would like to be at. You can even kiss and hug, have sex and change clothes, dressed up in any way you like. You can also drive, fly and dance. If you are using MSN, Yahoo or skype, you would have to express these. In Second Life, all are actions that can be seen, no words need to be expressed.

For cold strangers, who do not know each other at all, messaging is perhaps a good way to start a cold conversation, to start a relationship. Initiate, gauge and what’s next? If all is fine you meet. If you don’t click, don’t meet. That saves time!

So Second Life is a good place to have interviews. Don’t need face to face. For business, after discussion, close deals, face to face meeting is only signing of contract. This would save a lot of time and money on transport. Second Life helps in this aspect!
