Bukit Gombak

Bukit Gombak TeoChew Porridge, 潮洲粥 ‘teochew mueh’
Just as I was wondering if the Bukit Gombak Teochew Porridge is still there, I got a chance to pass by there on yesterday(Sunday).

Lim Chan invited us to her new house. There was no special occasion, but just a small gathering, to have dinner at her house. We went to her house after church by train. We alight at Bukit Gombak MRT station and as we walked along the pedestrian pathway, I watchout for the Teochew Porridge. Richard was eager to find out too. We used to go there for supper.

2 Coffee Shops along the road
There are two coffee shops along the road. The first one, which is nearer to Bt Gombak MRT station is not the one selling Teochew Porridge. It is very confusing. The one further down, away from the Bt Gombak MRT station is the one selling Teochew Porridge. Just opposite the coffee shop is the location where people used to wash their cars beside the drain. These are water from the hills from behind and my father, my brothers and Richard used to go there to wash their cars. They thought the water will bring them luck — they will strike 4D. The stretch of road there used to be full of vehicles, but those were the days. Now, cars are no longer allowed to parked there nor can they wash their cars there (though there were still so much water coming down in the drain).

We crossed the road and walked towards the coffee shop at Blk 347, the block which sells the Teochew Porridge. It was crowded with people and I can see families eating the porridge. The hawkers were busy. It must still be nice.

Bukit Gombak Neighbours Dispute
Lim Chan’s house is very nice. They had spent a lot of money investing in the home. The renovation was expensive but worth it. It is so nice to have new home, but one thing we are not sure of the neigbhours. Their neighbours are ‘mentally-illed’ people — something like the Joo Chiat neighbours story. When we reached their home, my father was helping them. Their mentally-illed next-door neighbours had caused intentional harassment to them, such as spitting saliva at time, switch on the Karaoke at the highest volume and taking objects to hit them, as well as scolding vulgar words. They were the fourth owner at the unit. Before that, they did not know their neighbours are going to be like that. It was so serious that night when we arrived. I had not witnessed everything.

While having dinner, the police arrived. By the time the police arrived, the culprits hide in the house and one more went out of the house. These are corridor houses. The whole stretch of people staying on the same level all have fear for this family, the ‘crazy mentally-illed’ family. I never know that Joo Chiat scenerio also exist in HDB flats. The family will purposely wear underpants to parade in front of Lim Chan house, intentionally for them to see. They spit saliva and said they despised them as well. Such are lowly educated people with low inferior complex.

This is what Lim Chan cooked. My brother did not go there as he was driving taxi. It was such a pity that I could not see him. He is always working so hard for money. Poor brother.

Bukit Gombak also has this 24 hour clinic which Ricsson had gone before. But doctor’s professionalism is a question mark nowadays where people are all thinking of making money. The doctor which Ricsson had consulted was a locum.
