Second Life Friendship

By Peace | March 8, 2008

Gone Are The Days
Watching the news now at Channel U. Many Hong Kong people are infected with flu now, more than thousands. One spokesperson said it was due to the cold weather. But why so many people? This is not the first case. This world is going to change, Major weather change, as already reported and seen in China. Many virus mutated, many new-found diseases and political unrest. Just take a look at the recent Edison Chen’s case and the not long ago, the Malaysian Health Minister’s case. How many families are peaceful? How many cases of divorce cases and marriage here? What has become of PEOPLE now?

Numb
When I just started Second Life, accepting friends and making friends was so common. I did not wear any protective armour. Today, I am no longer the old Peace Botanical in offering ‘friendliness’ to people around me. Fake, mostly Fake. Real? Hardly come by, hard to trust and hard to believe. Even old friends are MIA (missing in action), and old ‘friends’ betrayed and are pretentious. Tired, very tired to elaborate any further and numb. Sick of this world.

World of Animals
Friends betrayed you, Your Spouse also betrayed you. Your dearest one all betrayed you. What else can a casual friend not do? What else can an acquaintance do? Who can you trust?

When Humans are No different From Animals!!!

I used to log in to Second Life more frequently. I went popular places and the not so popular ones. Popular places are often crowded. I will receive lots of private messaging, lots of boxes opened up itself in my screen. I did not need to invite for any friends at all. I just need to chat with the boxes opened, and make decisions. These were all people whom I do not know at all. They are various sorts of people, but mainly one of a kind — they are just humans, normal humans which I had encountered in real life, but now appeared their real spirit.

My Blogs My Second Life
Can you imagine, in the real life, when we cannot read the mind and heart of people, it is already a messy and chaotic world, full of sabotage, full of killing and bloodshed. What about Second Life, the world of Spiritual Life in action? That is where the real heart and mind at work. What the mind thinks and what the heart has, it will reveal in the character of the person. If you want to fake your role, if you want to fake your personality, you must be a chameleon or perhaps the famous or popular leading actor/actress, the best in acting skills and perhaps a magician too.

Questions You might ask me about Second Life’s Friendship:

1. Do you mainly meet new people in Second Life, that is, people you haven’t met in the real world? Or do you mostly interact with people you don’t know from real life?
If I have an option, I would want to interact with people whom I know in real life. That is, we already know the person. Faking or not, we don’t need to guess.

2. Do you think Second Life communication is a satisfying means of interaction in terms of begining/starting or to maintain a friendship?
If you ask me about starting friendship in Second Life or even anywhere, I would say, I am not going to be easy at it this time. I might be easy-going before, but I am not going to be easy-going this time in accepting friendship. It takes time to know a person well. So I would want Time to reveal a person’s true character, I need time to judge a person well and I need time to decide if friendship is possible.

3. If you could choose to talk to an old friend of you and got to choose between talking to her/him through Second Life or through the more “old fashioned” telephone, what would you have chose? And why?
One thing I do not like about Second Life is the common auto log out problem or crashed problem and its problem of lag. When it is new, everything is fresh. But if it is user-friendly, even if it is not fresh, everybody who need to eat will still eat the same food. If the software had been better, if there is no constant system update, new software need to be installed, then Second Life will survive long in my heart. But I tell you, the reason for me to stay in there, is because I am the wife of Richard Palace.

If chatting online is possible between friends, Skype or any other Instant Messaging is always more than sufficient. Our Computer, our blog, our forum, our website, is all our spiritual paradise. We do not need Spiritual Paradise of the Spiritual Paradise. However, that is a major advancement, a unique creation… if only it can be better, especially not so MONEY-centered.

4. Do you think of friendships which exists entirely in Second Life as real?
The answer is very obvious if you have followed me.

5. If you get close to a person by communicating in Second Life, do you then think it is inevitably that you also want to meet each other in real life?
This is an obvious answer if you look at my life. Regardless of which Spiritual Paradise you looking at. As long as your spirit came into play in this rectangular box, you will be bounded. It takes a DISCIPLINED person, with a DISCIPLINED mind and a DISCIPLINED heart to GET OUT of this box if he ever step into it.

6. What do you think is the main difference between having friends in Second Life compared to having friends in real life?
Having friends in Second Life can means ‘friends’ that can know you better, friends that can read your thoughts and learn your heart. But friends that you often face — friends that you talk face to face, you have restrain, and you might not say all. Friends that you never seem to meet before, you imagined their appearance and you imagined the person based on their words, that is how strangers in SL become good friends and then lovers. Good if they are singles and find their new partners. Woes if they cheated on their spouse or their current girlfriends and boyfriends.

Your Heart, Your Conscience
To play the game well, we always must know your boundary. Know your own boundary. Set your own boundary. Know what you are doing and study your conscience.

Today, I do not need to have a list of contacts on my screen. If there is only one real friend, that is already suffice. But I tell you, I have a long list of contacts, but not a real friend now. God is my friend, my Master.
