I Am Singaporean

Barney - If You’re Happy & You Know It
If you are happy, you sing a song. If you are happy, you should tell people. If you are happy, you should spread the good news.
Yesterday, I was very happy. I was like a little bird that was being released from the cage. Though there was some kind of ‘unhappiness’ somewhere, still overall, it was a great day, a very great day.
A man carrying a bag on his bag walked towards me,”Excuse me, what country are you from?” He looked like Singaporean, Singaporean Chinese, the same colour as my skin, and looked about in his forties. I was surprised, and I told him,”Singapore!” He said,”Singaporean took Singapore’s picture? So strange..” Then he walked off, I also walked off.
Who is more strange? I am very normal, and I feel proud to be a Singaporean now. I was ‘cheated’(don’t know what is the right word to use, not really cheated, but…) by Jehovah Witness. I shall elaborate more on that some other time.
I went Clarke Quay for ‘FREE’ Facial. After that, I went City Hall, I wanted to go there. So many places I wanted to go, I wanted to take my time, stroll and see, but as always, SOMEONE was not interested.
From far, Clara told me,”Cat! Got Cat there!” I was so shocked and so happy….
Running to the cat, I took out my camera, and he began to walk. He purred,”miao, miao”, soft voice, though his much larger body than Puma Cat. I called him City Hall Cat. After him, Clara told me another cat coming from behind. It was so funny…. I called the cat, Sang Nila Utama Cat.
The last time I took my photo here, it was under construction… Around this place, the Singaporean Chinese Guy, someone who looked so much like ‘Chua’, asked for my nationality. He was not the first person to ask me.
So much changes, and everything was so beautiful. I went back to Raffles. There was so much things I need to learn about Singapore. I failed my History, History of Singapore, scored the lowest in the class, never interested in History, but now I am ‘digging’ history.
I cannot wait to tell you how great my day was. The pigeons, the eagle and the cats were with me, even though I had come to City Hall! They were not Woodlands birds and Woodlands cats, but City Hall Cats and birds. They looked different from Woodlands cats and birds — the pigeons darker, the cats bigger size.
Walking from Clarke Quay to City Hall, this is the first building which I saw, and which inspired me, and also the City Hall Cat waiting for me there. It was a perfect weather, no rain, but windy, especially at the point where I reached City Hall. The wind was perfect. The wind blew and the flag was being blown, the sight of it, I don’t know how to describe, it was so nice, so ‘glorious’– the flag waving in the air(飘扬), it was the pride of being a Singaporean, my home, my Singapore, the flag is something we should feel proud of.…
