Our Glorious Dead

Heroes of Faith
These are the people who had died during the world war. Never had I known that there were words written behind this memorial.

For the first time, I saw behind this memorial, words : They Died That We Might Live. It was getting dark and I could not take the whole picture.

On 5th September 1993 was the Faculty of Science, NUS Convocation. After the ceremony, my brother, my sister-in-law and Richard went to Marina Bay to take photographs. I had taken so many photographs there at Marina Bay. This is all destiny…

I never get to see my maternal grandmother. My mother always said she was so pitiful, and worked so hard because her mother died young and while she was very young also, at the age of 11 (my special number). Her big brother, Thomas Lee, also died very young, in the year 1965, due to an accident, and a curse behind it…

My maternal fourth aunt, I saw her before when I was young, and in photograph. She also died young, in Malaysia (cancer).

The next person who died in this family was my great grandmother. I was not so close to her, but I remembered visiting her in her room. She was bedridden for very long, always lying on bed. She died before my great grandfather, Peter.

My mother said that the spirits are ‘lonely’ and they come to ask the ‘partner’ or beloved to join them. After my great grandmother’s death, my grandmother was being ‘called’. I heard she was the dearest daughter of all. These grandmother of mine was called Maria, the faithful ’servant’ of God also, the one whom I remembered always wanted to receive Holy Communion, the Body of Christ….

After Maria, her father was being ‘called’ this time. My great grandfather, whom was closer to me, but not very close still (but I love him… he was very cute.), died in the year 1990 on January, on the special number 13.

Spirits In The Air
On the day of his funeral, my cousin said he saw a green light rose into the sky. He said he saw “Lao Gong” 老公 ‘came out’ of the body, the body, green light, becoming shorter and shorter rising into the sky. This cousin has special eyes, just like Clara.

Blessings From The Souls
After my great grandfather died, I always accompanied my mother to the grave during All Soul’s Day. My mother always taught me to pray for my studies and for my wisdom. At night, before I slept, I would pray to him also, besides to Jesus.

Peter: Head of The Church
My sister always had problems with her skin, and strange scratches on her body. They always seek the medium for answers. I was puzzled…. being a Christian. Anyway, I was curious. I ‘participated’ as well. One day, when my sister went upstairs at the Boon Lay house to seek one of the medium, I also seek their advice. During that time, I always had dream of my teeth dropping. According to dreams interpretation books, it means the death of dear ones. I was scared. I could not remember what the medium said or asked me to do, but I think she said something like “The angel fish coming soon’. During those days, I also dreamed of my great grandfather’s coffin. My mother said that was a good sign, means luck. I bought 4D and I struck lottery, S$1000 if I remembered correctly.
