Words can be difficult to understand….
One word but different meaning…..
More words more meaning…. all so complicated….
Words form the language, and there are both English and Mother Tongue. At home, we don’t even speak English or chinese. We don’t learn Teochew in school. What are the meaning of certain words even though they are explained in the dictionary? You never experienced, you perhaps never know…. If you are gifted with ‘tongues’ then you are lucky, but I am not ‘gifted with sweet tongues’…
Meaning of “Holy Communion”
As usual, as like last year, before the Holy Communion, the children needs to have group discussion. There are four session. I missed the first session. Last night, Clara and I attended the second session, which was our first time at this family’s house, this model christian, Model Catholic Family.
“Olive Flower”
Even the plants know, the plants felt their love, their plants rejoice their love… They put their own ’self-supplied’ orchids at their altar. The orchid is the magenta ‘olive flower’ (pronounced in teochew… my mother taught me….lots of memories about this orchid.)
Meaning of “Bless”
The whole corridor was placed with plants. Walking along the plants, you reach the house. Outside the house, there are a picture of Mary and a cross hang outside their house. On top of their unit number is the words “Bless this house O Lord”.
Just beside this picture is the cross of Jesus on the right.
Sweet & Gentle Lady
Immaculate Mother of God, we choose thee this day as the Mistress and Lady of this house. Guard it, dear Mother, from pestilence, fire, lightning and tempest, from schisms and heresies and from the malice of enemies. Protect its inmates, sweet Mary, watch over their going out and their coming in and preserve them from sudden death. Keep from us all sin and harm and pray to God for us that we may live in His Service and depart this life In His Grace. Amen.
Model Catholic Family
The family is indeed BLESSED. This is a happy family, a model catholic family. I feel ‘uncomfortable’, they are such ‘holy’ people, really holy people. They asked for the meaning of holy in each and every one of the children. As for me, I think Holiness is devotion to God, a life committed to God, thinking of God, doing the will of God, everything for God — raising up the children according to God’s standard. Sins or no sins I don’t know. I have yet to encounter someone who has no sins yet, especially the people around me, and those always heard in the news — EVEN the Ren Ci monk, can you imagine a monk who ‘acted’ to raise funds, but in the end, it was all really ‘for show’….
Meaning of Christian
But I believed this family is really blessed. The house is neat, clean, and they showed love and respect for each other. There are pride in their work, there are good communication in the family. The husband is not the ‘uncaring’ and ‘not be bothered’ type of people. The wife led the group and the husband was happy to entertain the guests. They are such wonderful people, even I am touched by their hospitality.
They always like to hug people. At church, at their house, they bid farewell with a hug and then said,”May God Bless you”. Hm…. tell you, I am not used to this kind of hugging. I don’t know how to hug also. I am always like a piece of wood, my mother also said before. And that is me, always so ‘motionless’, but lots of things ‘happening’ inside me… But they are so good, so natural at hugging people. It is just them, in them, and they spread the energy around. I cannot imagine I am like that, it is going to be so unnatural….
After leaving the house, my mind was full of thoughts. They are really really Christian, real christian, real Catholic. That was what I told Clara. Yet, I am so touched…. tears filled my eyes as I typed now….. because I want to show you how such things really changed us and really touched, merely WORDS alone — Words can heal and words can hurt….
