The Awakening
By Peace | August 8, 2008
Today is 8th August 2008 or 8.8.08. People said it is an auspicious day as 888 means 发 发 发!
My only National Day Parade show I watched and ever watched was in Primary School, Yung An Primary School. I had forgotten which year was that, but I remembered, I went to Kallang Stadium to watch the NDP show.
I had never been interested in watching any of the NDP show after that, never. If I watched, on TV, it would be happened to switch on the TV, and it was boring. I never finished and really enjoyed watching the whole thing. But definitely, there were some NDP which I had seen on TV, example, usually is the start of the parade, the arrival of the guest of honour and president and then the singing of National Anthem and then the rest is boring…..
I never study hard when I was in Primary School, but read what interest me — stories and Science. I watched TV, listening to National Anthem, singing the National Anthem (learning to sing) as that was part of the Music lesson. The teacher explained the meaning of the song and taught us the correct pronounciation. I can still remember the music teacher, old and wear plastic spectacles (she got a ‘characteristic’ smell on her body — not to my favour) — In the show “Voice”, Young-Eon said her music teacher smelled like her mother… when she rested on the music teacher’s shoulder. Everybody has their ‘own’ smell. I remembered my mother, my brother and that of my children, and also my dogs, birds, tortoise and chickens…
History is something which I dislike, for I had difficulties in remembering dates and names. But ever since my conversion, and the day I was spiritually ‘reborn’, my eyes were opened and my mind sees…..
Once, I had lessons with Jehovah Witness, Auntie Mary. Her first time coming to my door (their buddy system = two person go house to house knocking, preaching the good news), I welcomed them. I donated S$10 for the books. I started my lessons with them.
Soon I discovered that Jehovah Witness is ‘a cult’ and illegal in Singapore. They don’t serve National Service and they don’t sing National Anthem nor say the pledge. They don’t wear pants, but wear skirts covering the knee, as for women. Men, don’t need to say, men, always the same shirts, same pants, nothing special about ‘rules’ for men’s wear.
I asked the Indian guy (Suty =not real name) , who went prison because he did not serve National Service — “Why last time God Spoke to people? People can hear God’s voice? God can talk to people? Why now God don’t talk to people anymore?” Suty tried to explain to me about Creation, and an answer to my questions. I was not convinced at all. He went home, searched the internet and printed out ‘notes’ for me to read….
The Jehovah Witness gave up hope on me. Aunty Mary was very angry with me. Her children studied in Qi Hua Primary School also. She told me that her children did not sing National Anthem or say the Pledge at all. I was surprised, but I did not know anything about the truth religion yet then…. Aunty Mary was a Catholic also. He struck off her name from the HOLY Catholic church and be baptised again as a Jehovah Witness…
Our God is a humourous one. And it was like a joke. I asked Suty the question of God speaking to people — and it was Suty (always with her wife) who first saw me == “Jehovah Witness” = Witness of God, one Sunday afternoon at the Heart of Woodlands…. (immediately after I was ‘reborn’, somewhere in March where I ‘met’ God )
I was so inspired, so proud of myself being a Singaporean and being a Catholic, saying the Pledge and Singing the National Anthem, hearing them on YouTube, watching them on TV. You don’t have to sing aloud, it is a ‘heart thing’, and you don’t have to broadcast it, to show off. Everything you do, you do it with your own heart, willingly….. and I think that when you are happy, you should sing. When you are living in Singapore, you should stand together with Singapore, and sing the National Anthem and pledge. It is a sad thing that wrong values like that are passed on to the children from the parents….
My awakening is so see the truth of life, the one real God, the creator of heaven and earth, and to know the seen and unseen…. Singapore, a place where we belong, my home. What affects me, affects you.
“If it were my work, it would die with me. But if it is the work of God, it will continue…” ~ Mary of the Passion
Singapore, a blessed nation, would not be a success without the works of God. The success of Singapore today, is the works of God, the mercy of God, and a Gift to the nation, people of the nation with talents, our proud resources, uniquely ours, Singlish for example!
When we celebrate our National Day, we must not forget our Gifts from God. This is my awakening, my turning point of the turning point.
Photograph of Tembusu tree at Fu Shan Garden, where my house is situated. Full blossomed now, with fruits, berries red and orange! Believe and you shall be saved. It is harvest time. Jesus said,”The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.“
When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”), and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons. ~Luke 2:22-24
Jesus is Lord, the only Son of God, born Man and God, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, and you will be saved. Black or white, the truth will be revealed…
This year, NDP show, I am not going to miss it. I am going to watch it on TV. There are the Black Knights that I love and the Teochew or Chinese Opera which I wanted to watch.
