How Safe Is The School
By Peace | May 6, 2010
Photograph showing a blue car parking just outside the main school gate (gate A). The car was parked there for quite long and the security guard finally came to ask her to move the car…
Above, you can see the photograph of QiHua Primary School’s security guard, as I had mentioned in several posts at Just Singapore. This is to show you that I am speaking/writing/typing the truth.
At QiHua Primary School, there are several gates — A, B, C, D and E. Not all gates are opened (depending on school dismissal). The ‘busy’ time and also the ‘dangerous’ timing is around noon time onwards. Here, you have the lower primary coming into the school and at a later time, you have older primary pupils leaving the school. You have see cars waiting along the roadside and parents or maids waiting outside or around the school compound.
Photograph showing Gate D
This Gate (D) is newly added not long ago. Though you see it is closed, it might not be locked. Many times, students can just open and they can go in/out of the school. The students already ‘know’ about this fact. There was once, the operation manager (the Singh) saw ‘an intruder’(secondary school pupils) among the students at this gate. Then they were asked to leave.
Photograph showing Gate E — there is a surveillance camera installed on the right side of the gate.
This gate is the furthest away from the school, especially the security guard post. It has a surveillance camera installed. During the morning, it will be opened for students to go into the school (some morning it was closed…). In fact, the rest of the gates will be opened in the morning for the morning session pupils.
At about 7.15am, all the side gates would be locked.
My son had already graduated from this school and my daughter is still studying in this school. I find that the children are not safe in the school at all. As what I had said, the security guard’s working attitude is one thing. The other thing is they cannot keep track of pupils in and out of the school. Not only does the security guard have no idea about your child’s presence in school, the general office could not be bothered also. Simple question like ‘Is my child still in the school?’ and they cannot give a ACCURATE answer. Even when my daughter is still in the school, NOBODY can FIND my daughter in the school. This is a BIG PROBLEM. Just HOW SAFE can the school be in such a sense?
All these gates like this, does not ensure safety of the pupils at all. The school MUST do something to rectify this problem IF they want to ensure the SAFETY of the pupils and teachers in the school. They must ensure that pupils are not able to leave the school during school hours (once they are in the school), and they must have a record of students in/out of school. All these, to make things easy, must be computerized…
