Respecting The Church
By Peace | May 11, 2010
On this Mother’s Day, we went to church as usual. Today is the 6th Sunday of Easter. I was very peacefully listening to the mass, concentrating on listening to the mass… ‘blended’ so well with the church hymns… despite having to carrying Isaac in my arms, and ‘rocking’ him, trying to pacify him (to quieten him so as not to disturb the congregation, and yet I must listen to the word of God)…
Are You A Mother?
Suddenly, the CHURCH WARDEN just walked towards my pew, in front of me. She JUST push away my pram which was parked in front of me — pushed towards me, NEVER even ASK, never even SAID anything nor SEE that my leg was WHERE. Luckily I was observant and I shifted my leg. I was rocking my child! The scripture reading was ON!!!! It was FIRST READING!!!! And I was INTERRUPTED!!!!! What on earth was happening then? My focus was GONE! It was the same church warden that want to ‘confiscate’ my camera!!!! How rude of her!
Church Wardens
Can you understand? Is it VERY EASY to look after a BABY? Ask any mother and tell me the answer! When you see a ‘quiet’ baby in the church, please be considerate and don’t come and disturb the baby — The mother wants to listen to the word of God!
Discrimination
On this day, I saw a man, a quite old man, dressed neatly, smartly (like a working personnel — working clothes), not like me, wear sandals and 3/4 pants (and wear T-shirt). This man was seated with another man towards the front row of the church. He was walking around, taking photographs of the Statue of Resurrected Jesus, and the side of the church (the stained glass). NO WARDEN came to ask him to stop. NO ONE approach him at all. YET, when I took photographs (seated at the back), I am the TARGET of the church wardens…
Dog’s Eyes
How ‘high’ is your eyes? You cannot see that the children are people also? Church wardens, in front of the church got plenty of empty spaces also, which my eyes can see. Why must you always target the BACK, I am transparent or your ‘dog’s eye’ cannot see me and my children? We are not well-dressed. We are always wearing the same old clothes. My children do not have nice clothes. My husband and myself don’t wear ‘working suits’ to the church. We went to church EARLY. WE went to church PREPARED, and we chose our seats, sat comfortably, have enough space for MOVEMENTS, and YET, in the end, we were TREATED like NOBODY!!! DO YOU SEE MY FACE? 狗眼不要看人低 = Dog’s eyes “don’t see people LOW”! (This is what the Chinese always say of people who despise/look down on the poor, the shabbily dressed people…)
Late Comers
Who are the people you should target? Are you being Considerate? Your job is very important. You are ‘entertaining’ the people of God in God’s house. God invited me to go to his house and this is how you treat me? Where is hospitality? Are you doing the right thing?
What is respect? Are you respecting the CHURCH if you are coming LATE for church? People are Coming LATE and they are OFFERED seats… Fine, you can do that, you are very kind… but you must spare a thought for people. You don’t know how to ASK? You cannot see the front of plenty of more spacious seats?
By coming in late, what had the people done to my things? My milk bottle dropped onto the floor, the whole bottle of milk wasted… We had to sacrificed our space, and it was so crammed. Even the children had to be ‘forced’ to the end of the pew, treated like NOBODY.
WHO you have let them IN
Let me tell you who are the ones who came late, and this particular church warden had treated them so well, showed them the way all the way INTO our pews. What a fashionable lady with long hair and thick fashionable belt she was wearing… Another one, a mother with a kid (cannot see her ‘fashion’ as she was in my pew, beside Richard), but belongs to the ‘same group’, came at the same time. The father(s) and boys did not have seats. They stood beside me, outside of the pew, at the right side of the church.
What is more important?
This woman, came in with a piece of flyer still grabbing in her hand. I know it is Mother’s day… She was fanning herself with this flyer, and ‘admiring’ this piece of ‘JEWELRY’ flyer, instead of looking at the screen, checking out or listening to the FIRST READING. I, on the other hand, was disturbed by them, MISSED out on all the readings.
THE MATTER OF FACE
Are you respecting THE CHURCH when you are coming LATE for church? Father Terence had stressed numerous time on this matter, and YET, there are ALWAYS late comers to the church. DO YOU UNDERSTAND what you are doing?
No photographs here. Even though I had taken (to remind myself what I had seen). No show here. I understand when to use and when not to use my photograph.
To Be Continued.
