Rise With Christ

By Peace | June 11, 2010

Photograph of Civilian War Memorial taken on 10 June 2010: A flock of pigeons were spotted on the green pasture

I want to thank this person, Jama, whom I had found on the internet today. She has taken such beautiful photographs (clear and big) of the Civilian War Memorial or War Memorial Park.

On the first ‘official’ time which I had gone to his park or monument, I (we) did not step into the basement of the monument. There are steps/stairs which lead you to the central basement of this monument. On the night when our family arrived at this site, it was very dark, with only white clouds in the sky. The lamps there were not too bright, very dim. From a distance, standing at the fountains place or around the pavement near the benches, we could see something ‘black’ at the centre of the monument. It looked so eerie. Clara and I tried not to look at it, really scary.

Yesterday, our family happened to pass by this place again — We went to Suntec City (for PC Show). It was such a WONDERFUL DAY, a day which seem so long… doing lots of things and witnessing lots of things…

Today, I searched the web for “Civilian War Memorial”. Honestly, I do not know much about this memorial or monument. Walking past for so many years of my life, I only know it is famous, important and it is to remember some people. Little do I know that there are really REMAINS of PEOPLE inside here. (See photographs below)

All thanks to Jama, an old mummy who’s totally hooked on the net, as a SAHM (stay at home mum) — she has to take care of the home, husband and the 2 grown-up sons. A blessed woman, she still got time to go out and do volunteer community works with a self-help organisation helping the less fortunates. She had her wonderful photographs posted at Blogspot, sharing her Sweet Memories. I had ‘taken’ her photographs as seen below:

Interior of Civilian War Memorial: The urn showing the remains of the unidentified war victims who are buried beneath the monument.

This is really the ‘black thing’ which looks so eerie from afar. It is now clear what is it that ‘we’ (Clara and I) were afraid of. Below the big black urn wrote this words: In deep and lasting sorrow this memorial is dedicated in memory of those of our civilians who were killed between 15 February 1942 and 18 August 1945, when the Japanese Armed Forces occupied Singapore.

*As I was typing these, a small black bird came to the opposite block of my flat to sing praise…

Discovery of Human Remains
On 15 February 1962, in a headline, “Mass war graves found in Siglap’s ‘valley of death’”, the Straits Times reported the discovery of five separate war graves located in a “Valley of Tears” in the Siglap area. Twenty years ago, on its rugged countryside, hundreds of civilians of which a large number were Chinese residents, were rounded up by the Japanese Army, machine-gunned, and buried in several places. The massacres by the Japanese took place during their occupation in 1942-1945. The human remains were uncovered during sandwashing operations in an area off the 7.5 mile Siglap Road. Subsequent investigations were carried out by the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce team of Messers. Ng Aik Huang, Toh Keng Tuan, and Lam Thian.

When Jesus came he signified the coming of restoration. All of the dead in Christ will one day be raised from the dead and caught up into the clouds to be with the Lord forever…

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first~ 1 Thessalonians 4:16
