Letters From Principal
By Peace | July 2, 2010
1. Letter from Principal to inform Parents/Guardians about their 2nd InnoJOY Fest 2010
Just on one day itself, I received two differing letters from the principal. Lets take a look at these letters written(issued or asked someone to prepare… even if asked someone to prepare, she has signed it, she has approved it…) by the Principal.
2. Letter from Principal to inform Parents about National Education (NE) Show
Look at these two letters. There are two different letterheads, two different format of letters also, written in different styles. Lets take a look at the difference:
1. Letterhead
In this two letters, the fonts used are different. The size of the words are different also, this especially obvious in the Chinese characters, the name of the school. In the first letterhead, there is no line separating the letterhead and the contents. The second letterhead, NE SHOW Letter, there is a line separating the letterhead and the content. On this second letter, there is this words written on the letterhead even: Live Our Dreams. Fly Our Flag.
2. Greetings
In the first letter, it said “Dear Parent/Guardian” whereas in the second letter, it said “Dear Parents“.
3. Subject
In the first letter, just below the greetings (dear parent/guardian), RE:2nd InnoJOY Fest 2010 was inserted. This gives readers at a glance of what to expect and what is the main thing about the contents of the letter. It is so much better to have such a short and brief ‘summary’ of the letter.
4. Acknowledgement Slip
As parents, we know that sometimes children did not give parents what the school wants them to give to parents. Sometimes they said they had forgotten to show parents, and sometimes they are simply just lazy. So where important documents are expected to be given to parents, they usually have the Acknowledgement Slip. In these two examples, it is obvious that only the second letter has acknowledgement slip. Does it show that the first letter is not important?
5. Ending
In the first letter, the Principal of QiHua Primary School wrote “Regards,” and this is followed by her signature. In the first letter, again, you can see that below her signature, there is no line. Her full name was written and her designation, Principal was printed.
In the second letter, on her signature, you can see a line. Below the line, you can see her name and her designation, Principal. However, on top of that, you can see again, QiHua Primary School below the word “Principal”. In my opinion, this is really redundant. The letterhead is already written the name of the school as well as showing the school crest. What is on the mind of this principal?
6. Facts (Contents of the Letters)
In the first letter, it said: We welcome all pupils, parents and members of the public to join us in this fest. Attached are two innoJOY Fest flyers which we hope you will assist to invite your relatives, friends or neighbours to join us.
In actual fact, there were no attachment at all. The letter contains no attachment. It was not stapled to anything at all. It is just a single loose sheet of printed words. I have no idea what flyer it is at all.
In the second letter, you can read about “Important Reminder: To bring along a thermometer for temperature taking
Parents can contact the school at Tel: 62696250 on the night of the NE Show for any further update.
The school is teaching the students about Critical Thinking or Analytical Thinking Skills. I really wonder if they Practice What they Preach…

You sure have a lot to gripe about this school. With your sharp observation skills, I presume that you child had just been enrolled in that school.
As far as I heard, I understand that it is quite a good school and I presume that is the reason why you sent your child there.
Letterheads do get a revamp sometimes, and some teachers may be holding on to an older version in their comp. With the diverse activities undertaken by different teachers, they do write on behalf of the principal when informing parents. We do have to consider that we cannot expect everyone to be an expert letter writer. Why sweat over small issues of letterheads and format when there are more important concerns about your child’s development that warrants more of your attention.
Instead of posting these “mistakes” online and embarrass the school that your child is linked to (causing embarrassment to your child too), why not collaborate directly with the school to help them correct their oversights and hopefully reduce your grouses in time to come (I understand that you had posted other “concerns” too).
With your keen senses and active efforts, it will make you a happier parent which will also help your child to appreciate her life in that school and henceforth, a happier child.
