The Immortal Beloved
By Peace | September 4, 2010
I ‘chanced upon‘ this book during my Library visit. Today, as I wanted to write about The Immortal Beloved, I have yet discovered another new information about this book. As I was looking out for the author of this book, which is on the cover, I had discovered from within the book, “On the cover: Portrait of Beethoven composing his Missa solemnis, by Joseph Karl Stieler (1781-1858)”. Missa solemnis (latin) means solemn mass.
This book is written by Jennifer Viegas with dedication to Lori Cuthbert, Paul Soul Johnson, Martha Rix, and other musicians who, like Beethoven, reveal truth, beauty, and the power within through their music.
Joseph Karl Stieler (1 November 1781 – 9 April 1858) was a German painter…. the above picture shows a clearer ‘picture’ of Beethoven. The one from the book was covered with the library sticker, and I cannot see the picture clearly. Luckily, Wikipedia contains such information. Thank you so much to these people who had helped to compile and make Wikipedia possible for everyone to use.
Looking at the above picture, the face of Beethoven reminds me of ‘someone’. I think this is a great piece of painting. I believe this is an oil painting, something that I like…
WHEN THE PUPIL IS READY, THE MASTER WILL APPEAR
How books come about and what am I doing now?
“… books that have recently been on my bedside table … Nowadays books are not the be all and end all of life, human beings are.
Yet, they remain marvelous teachers. Primarily, if I choose my authors with care, because the person “speaking” to me has no hidden agendas. Hence, I am assured of getting the truth every time we communicate. Books are also a wonderful source of excitement and relaxation, which is why I try to have a varied diet of inspirers and entertainers at hand. Browse awhile; perhaps you’ll meet an old friend, perhaps you’ll find another piece of your puzzle, perhaps you’ll get prompted to drop me a line and point my nose in a new direction . . . but please enjoy.“
Never Stare At The Sun: Big things can’t be addressed directly. Reflections and shadows are the only real tools we have
This world is like a big puzzle, all mess up now. It is a game that we have to come together to put this big puzzle into the right place to form the big ‘ultimate picture’, the Paradise of God, the place where God had intended it to be at the very beginning of time. We all come into this place called Earth, to learn and to learn something and ultimately, to be able to impart the knowledge that we have to those people around us. Everyone is our teacher… even little children! Yes, we come to learn and the most important thing in life is to learn about the truth, the Truth about our LOVE of God for us…..
Inside this book, Beethoven’s World, I discovered something very interesting and ‘relevant’. It is an unsent letter, known as the ‘immortal beloved’, found among his belongings. Maynard Solomon reproduces the letter in his book, describing how Beethoven dramatically expressed his love for his ‘immortal beloved’… One section of the letter reads”
Good morning, on 7 July Though still in bed, my thoughts go out to you, my Immortal Beloved, not and then joyfully, then sadly, waiting to learn whether or not fate will hear us — I can live only wholly with you or not at all — Yes, I am resolved to wander so long away from you until I can fly to your arms and say that I am really at home with you, and can send my soul enwrapped in you into the lands of spirits — Yes unhappily it must be so — You will be the more contained since you know my fidelity to you. No one else can ever possess my heart — never — never… Be calm — love me — today — yesterday — what tearful longings for you — you — you — my life– my all — farewell. Oh continue to love me — never misjudge the most faithful heart of your beloved.
Beethoven then signed the letter “ever thine”, “ever mine”, “ever ours”. Beethoven experts debated the identity of the ‘immortal beloved‘…
