The Solemn Mass
By Peace | September 6, 2010
Yesterday, 5th September 2010, the death anniversary of Mother Teresa, and also the birthday of my niece… and this is also a very ‘special day’ where I had witnessed something UNUSUAL in the church, my church, at St Anthony of Padua..
Early in the morning, it had been raining. The family was all ready and as usual, prepared to go out anytime, but since it was raining, we intend to take taxi. Since the church is so near and it is raining, I decided to make a call booking for taxi. At 1025am, I started calling for taxi at various companies: Comfort/City Cab, Trans Cab, Silvercab… It was such a CHORE to call for taxi. Taxi lines are always engaged. If it happens to get through, you have answering machines — Press 1 for blah blah blah, Press 2 for blah blah blah… want to talk to operator also got problem… It says, “Your call is important to us, please wait for operator to assist you.” (something like that). I hold on to the phone for so long and the line was even cut off! When I asked for taxi, the operator put down her phone, and again it was machine operated. “Please wait for your taxi number”. However, holding on to the lines, so many times it says “Sorry there is no available taxi.” That’s it!!!! Operator never called back, no one to assist you anymore… We had to call again, a brand new call… and the story repeats.
I gave up and went downstairs to wait for taxi. It was difficult to hail for a cab. Richard waited for available cab under the rain, while I continued to call for taxi at the void deck…. the same issue as above. I even asked Ricsson to help to call using his handphone. But no use also….
As such, we were late for church…. not purposely late…. and we need to stand outside the church…
In the afternoon, when the children went for Catechism class, I carried Isaac walked around the church. After we had come back from lunch, we saw a trolley with “ETERNAL REST” (purple “drape” -don’t know the proper noun to call it)… Immediately it came to my mind that was for the coffin…
What I had dreamed, and what I had witnessed today… what I had seen and heard today at the church… The Origin of the Mass, how Mass come about and what is the meaning of Mass….
(something to discuss about what I had seen in the church today — the Power of Observation)
I was so ‘sad’ automatically… The funeral mass I heard would start at 4.15pm. Initially Clara’s prayer session would end at 5pm, but all the timing was changed last minute. So we left the church at 4pm, and I did not get to ‘witness’ this funeral mass, but I am still learning….
After this funeral mass, there is sunset mass at 6pm. I asked the ‘no name group of people’, and one of them tell me about this dead person…. What a really UNUSUAL day… the whole church has no flower decoration also… and no one in the group noticed… and on this day, Novena Church is celebrating Our Lady Procession 2010 — One God, One World, One People… at 6pm also….
