Hair Stand
By Peace | September 21, 2010
When I was young, I was being introduced to a game known as 灵魂钱 (“soul money” translated word for word). This is a ‘game’ that only need a piece of paper and a coin. On the paper, you just need to write any words that you desired, and at the centre of the paper, draw a circle with the word “Home” (家). The professional one would be called 碟仙 (“plate deities”) with a big piece of yellow paper with most of chinese characters written in circular manner on the paper. Similar to the former one we designed, this professional one also has a ‘central home’ for the spirits. This is all the ‘spirits game’. We need to call for the spirits, something like chanting to ‘invite’ the spirits to communicate with you.
Last night, a 5-cent coin dropped mysteriously on the floor. My goose pimples were all raised as ‘memories’ and ‘thoughts’ just come involuntarily to my mind… We never put any money on the bed nor did it dropped from the shelves. I really had no idea how this ‘magic’ came to be…. this is all mysteries. The obverse design of the 5-cent coin showed the ‘cancer leaves’, a plant that had prospered and flowered so beautifully at my church. On the other side of this 5-cent coin showed the year in which the coin was made or released: 2003…
2003 is the year of the goat (羊) according to the Chinese calendar (The Zodiac). This means that Cebest is born in the year of the goat. I had always wondered why my family has no goats……. and this is the irony of life as well….. anyway, on this fateful day of 19.9.2010, I discovered that Richard’s grandmother is born in the year 1919 and she has a ‘goat son’ as well!!! This is so unbelievable…
Anyway, on her Sunday birthday celebration, when we arrived at the house, I was ‘searching’ for her. This is because when we stepped into the house, all the children and grandchildren were at the living room and in the room, there was no one around (and this is their mother’s/grandmother’s birthday!) Later, she stood in front of us with her hair all wet with shampoo!!! She was wearing ‘grey floral grandma clothes’ at that time. Next, the maid came finally. I don’t know if the maid got help in the washing later on, but the next time I saw her was when she was lying on the bed with her hair still rather wet. The air-con was on and she complained of always so hot. Two daughters and the second daughter-in-law were on the bed. Grandmother wore light green floral ‘grandma clothes’ now.
In her bedroom, I got some ‘sensation’ as well. This is not the first time since I reached Sengkang on this day. This kind of ‘sensation’ is like my goose pimples raised, but not really… perhaps hair stand a bit. Grandmother’s hair is curly and consists of uneven colours of black/grey and white. When everybody was gone, and I saw that my present was not opened, we approached her. Communication was so difficult, but later, she got up and walked to the living room. I saw her hair was so long now, about shoulder length.
It is her birthday celebration and I saw her lying on the bed, with the daughters and daughter-in-law sitting on the bed… Her hair was wet and no one offer to use any hair dryer to blow dry her hair….. her stature and voice ‘ranting’ on her bed reminds me of a female patient at Tan Tock Seng Hospital…
This is the crocodile head appeared in the sky while I was walking to Causeway Point on 18.9.2010. The crocodile is not so obvious yet, but the shape is forming…. will there be crocodile tears?
