Manila Palm

Veitchia Merilli (Manila Palm)

Veitchia Merilli (Manila Palm)

Veritchia Merili (Manila Palm) flowered for the first time on 5 September 2010, photograph taken on the way back from church at 4.47pm.  For the first time, I had seen this plant ‘flowered’ (‘buds’).  There are 10 such Palms on this plot of grassland at Fu Shan Garden, separating these 10 palms are some stone paths (made into the patterns of a dinosaur) for the elderly or anyone who would want to walk on the stone (massage for the feet).  On one side is 3 and the other far end towards the roadside is 7 such palms.

Below, you see the close-up of the Palms ‘buddings’. This is the first time I had seen the ‘fruit’ of such palms here. Out of the many palms here, this is the only ‘flower’ that I had seen. I walked around and see no other ‘flowers’ on the rest of the palms.

Together with these Manila Palms are 6 butterfly trees.

Below, you can see the Manila Palm, planted by Mr Lee Yiok Seng. I don’t even know this person. I do not know the name of this palm, and I would have thought that this palm is called Alexandra Palm if not for the name of the plant being stated at the stone plaque shown below the tree.

Same day, taken photograph of the same type of tree (Veitchia Merilli/ Manila Palm) planted by Mr Lee Yiok Seng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary For Labour, MP for Sembawang GRC, Chairman of Sembawang Town Council on Clean and Green Week 1996, 26th Tree Planting Day, 3rd November 1996.

So you can see that on this day, one plant has ‘flowered’ while the other has not. And look at the ‘colour‘ of the photograph that I had taken. This is very important. This is because I am going to show you more photographs and this would serve as a control.

On 23 September 2010, the buds opened and some flowers can be seen from the palm tree.

On 26th September 2010, the ‘flowers’ were visited by so many bees.

I am writing this because something serious had happened at Fu Shan Garden…. Sembawang Town Council’s worker was alerted, and ‘the gardener’ came…  Needs time to elaborate.

Photograph of this tree was taken on 1 October 2010… At the background, you can see fallen Butterfly Tree as well. There were 2 fallen Butterfly Trees to be exact.  If you look closely, this tree appeared to have been ‘break off’ — who had done it?

Spoken to ‘the gardener’ and he said it must be some people who wanted to vent their frustrations!  BUT the cleaner told me about the WIND so strong….. and GUESS what happened today when I had captured photographs of the ‘happenings’ at the site.  Just now while I was looking through the PHOTOGRAPH, I had a SHOCK out of my life!  It is so UNIMAGINABLE!  This is so spooky, and I did not do anything to my photograph at all!  Wait for my photographs and my story…..

‘The gardener’ said he had taken photographs and would give to Sembawang Town Council.  He said he would report this case to the police also.
