WORDS + ART, Library Books

WORDS + ART, Library Books

These are three library books I had borrowed from Woodlands Regional Library as shown above. The three books are:
1. Words + Art 2005, Building Blocks — Inspiration from Architecture
2. Words + Art 2006, Capturing the Way We Are — Inspiration from Photography
3. Words + Art, Singapore Art Museum. Times Publishing… See, Imagine, Create

The Creation
In the beginning was the Word:
the Word was with God
and the Word was God….

The Score, 无花果

Secret Between Huang WenYong and XiangYun

Secret Between Huang WenYong and XiangYun

The Score started on Monday, 4 October 2010. On Thursday, it was showing Episode 4. It was such an interesting show, full of mysteries. Just as I was watching the show, wishing to know what is the secret between Xiang Yun and Huang Wen Yong, Richard said,”Someone pressed the door bell.” I was shocked again. The time was about 9.25pm. I did not hear any door bell sound! Perhaps I was too ‘absorbed’ by the show? Anyway, we went out of the room, headed towards the door. Ricsson stood at the door…. don’t know what actually happened… he said no one outside the door…. Richard faster went out of the house to take a look. No one was seen….

I missed out on the secret. Today, I went YouTube to watch what I had missed while I was away.

There is really so much mysteries… On the next day, I saw Yao Dong, Xiang Yun and Paige Chua at Good Morning Singapore and learned that Paige Chua was hospitalized while filming this show….. The last time when I was watching 9pm show, my door bell rang exactly at 9pm when the show 当我们同在一起 was showing episode 1…

Upstairs, Second Floor
Huang Wen Yong and Xiang Yun had discussed about their secret in their room upstairs, second floor of their house. Outside the door, Yao Dong was eavesdropping…

World Mental Health Day
I am supposed to return this 3 books on 10.10.2010…. Ten Ten…. it is the birthday of Anita Mui also…. but I had checked my record for so many times, but MISSING from the record was the third book titled Words +ART, Singapore Art Museum, Times Publishing.  The RECORD for this book was GONE – meaning not in the computer system!  This is really spooky!  I suspected this/ discovered this one about one to two weeks ago, and only confirmed it again on 4 October 2010, when I needed to return some books.  Checked again and again, and there was really no such record of my book….

So curious about this book!  I flipped the book to discover more.

Special Thanks to United Overseas Bank Limited for their support…

The Contents of the books are divided into 5 categories according to Pastimes, Festivals, Traditions, Places and People.  Just to name a few –
1. Pastimes:

  • Tan Tee Chie was born in China in 1930, came to Singapore when he was 10 years old. He was a talent in art and in this book, woodcut (or woodblock printing, is a popular form of art in the 1950s and 1960s) was mentioned and “Brobak birds Competition, 1966″ done by him was shown.
  • Chua Mia Tee was born in China in 1931, came to Singapore when he was a young boy.  Educated at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, he grew up in Chinatown by the Singapore River….  He had painted an oil painting “The Portable Cinema” which was shown in the book.  He had known that some of his favourite scenes would disappear when time passed, and so he felt the urgency to document these scenes before they disappeared.

2.  Festivals

  • Lee Boon Wang was born in China in 1934 and came to Singapore when he was a young boy.  During his primary education, his teacher saw his talent in arts and encouraged him to further his study of art at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts…..The cover page of the book shows his painting, which is a street full of people about Chingay Festival…
  • Georgette Chen, a cosmopolitan, born in 1906 came to Singapore when she was 47 years old and taught at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.  Her painting of still life was shown in the book and it is about Moon Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival.

This book is such a treasure which I did not realise if not for all these ‘strange’ happenings…
