Wing of a Roller, Albrecht Durer (1512)
This is a colourful wing of a Roller (a rare bird) painted by the artist Albrecht Dürer (21 May 1471 – 6 April 1528) using watercolour. In Dürer’s time, the rollers were sold in his home town of Nuremberg as a delicacy.
People have always hope to fly or to wish themselves to be like the birds, to have wings so that they can fly. That is why we have pilots and we also have people who go on hot air balloon and parachutes too. And that is the reason why we have so many types of ‘angel wings’ for sale in shops, both for children and adults (especially in festive occasion now that Halloween is getting round the corner).
To have wings and to be able to fly is the dream of many people. Walking around is just too tiring. And you can see that in Second Life, the avatar can fly around and the avatar can dressed up with different wings attached. Traveling around is just commands and ‘button-clicks’ away only. How amazing and wonderful if such dreams can be turned to reality, and we do not have to have headaches over MRT seats or crowds issue.
