Health Insurance

What sort of Health Insurance do you have? Do you have a health insurance that cover you for illness/diseases and when you are hospitalized?
During my hospitalization in 2009, I had to fork out a sum of $2136.90 after I was discharged from the hospital!
Being a housewife, this is a big sum for me. I had to take loans from my insurance company to pay the above sum. My husband covered me with health insurance, Incomeshield (Cheap insurance for low income people, something similar to Medicare Supplements). However, I was surprised that despite the fact that I was ‘covered’ for healthcare insurance, I was not paid a single sum from it.
The above shows a bill from Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Staying in the hospital for 10 days, I need to pay about $1750 (after Government Subsidy). Staying in the hospital, there are so many things that are chargeable. From the hospital bill, we can see that Daily Treatment Fee of about $620 (after Government Subsidy). I don’t know what sort of ‘daily treatment’ this includes (so it is something not very clear here). Other things that were being charged were the doctor’s fee, investigation fees, therapy fees and so on. The total amount added up to be about $4600, and luckily there was government subsidy and this amount was reduced to about $4000.
Upon ‘admittance’ into the hospital, my husband paid a deposit of $450. Medisave was deducted for a maximum amount of $1500. In the bill, it was stated my insurance, NTUC Income: Incomeshield $0.00
The above shows part of the type of compensation which my Insurance Plan will provide. For class B1 ward, the amount deductible per policy year can be up to $2500, but nothing was deducted as for me…
Tan Tock Seng Hospital is a restructured hospital that participate in Medishield Scheme. I asked the person who admitted me to the hospital, and he did not know all the details…
When we read brochure or websites about the insurance products, they would say:
“Guaranteed Lifetime Coverage : Under IncomeShield M Plans, you can now enjoy hospitalisation coverage beyond the age of 80, without the need for medical underwriting. All you need to do, to enjoy lifetime coverage, is to opt for IncomeShield Plan B or C upon reaching the age of 80.”
However, in my case, I did not get a single cent.
Nonetheless, I still feel the importance of having a healthcare insurance. Having a good coverage of healthcare insurance can help to reduce your financial burden when one day you had to be admitted in the hospital, just like me. I am so surprised to see that Medicare supplement has so many types of plans available! If I have money, I would invest in such kind of healthcare plans. But who I am, how much money I have, everything that I have or don’t have is all destined. Even though I have no money, but I have health now (and Health is Wealth) — not having to go for hospital treatment or seek the help of any doctor is a bliss already.
Who has saved me? Is it the doctors at Tan Tock Seng Hospital?
You can invest or insure your health with Medicaid, or other big Insurance companies. After all the hospitalizations, compensations from the companies (claims), you are still left with your body (probably pains). WHO is the one who would give you life?
You can have lots of health insurance, but that does not mean that you would have health. Your only assurance of health insurance is to know the true God of this world.
